Search "free 11+ resources" and you'll get thousands of results — most of them recycled, watermarked or behind email-capture walls. Here's an honest list of resources that actually deliver value at no cost.
The good free resources
1. Quest Arena (Edu Archives)
This site. 5,057 worksheets covering every 11+ subject. 180 timed mock papers with marking schemes. 520 centre-specific mocks for 52 different grammars. All free, no email capture, no card, no trial.
2. CGP "Free 11+ Sample Pack"
CGP publishes paid 11+ books but offers genuine free sample materials. Useful for trying their format before buying.
3. BBC Bitesize KS2
Not 11+ specific, but excellent for subject foundations — particularly maths, science, and writing.
4. School-specific past papers
Some grammar schools publish 1-2 past papers free on their websites. Look for Tiffin, KCS Wimbledon, Pate's. Caveat: papers are usually 2-3 years old.
The not-actually-free traps
- "Free trial" services that require a card upfront and charge after 7 days.
- Email-capture-then-spam services that deliver one or two papers then hammer your inbox.
- Sites that link to "free downloads" that are actually copyrighted material — bad for everyone.
What free resources can't replace
Free resources are great for self-study, but they don't give you:
- Personalised feedback on writing.
- Spotting individual weak areas.
- Adapting pace to your child specifically.
If you can self-mark and explain answers, free is enough. If not, consider a few hours of tutoring on top.
