Odd-one-out questions test category recognition. Examiners reach for the same families of categories again and again — knowing them speeds your child up.
Categories to expect
- Types of food — apple, pear, plum, peach, carrot.
- Musical instruments — violin, drum, flute, trumpet, window.
- Colours mixed with shapes — red, blue, square, green, yellow.
- Vehicles, professions, weather, sports.
Practice now on odd-one-out questions to spot the families.
The harder variant
Some are abstract — odd by phonetic pattern, odd by syllable count, odd by being the only word with a silent letter. If the obvious category doesn't fit, look at the words themselves, not just their meanings.
