11+ Study Planner โ€” 12-Week Programme

Years 5โ€“6 ยท pre-exam ยท 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week ยท designed by tutors who run 11+ classes

The rule. Most children who sit the 11+ comfortably do short daily sessions for 12 weeks, not long weekend marathons. This planner gives you 12 weeks ร— 5 days ร— 30 minutes. Tick a box every time a session is done. Stick to two weak topics per week โ€” anything more and the child plateaus.

Tutor's notes

  1. Sessions of 30 minutes beat sessions of 90. Attention sharpens around 20 minutes and drops after 40. Two short sessions on a weekday + a longer one at weekends works best for most children.
  2. Mark together, gently. Mark with the child, not for them. Ask "what was the trick here?" rather than "why did you get this wrong?" โ€” children retain the trick, not the telling-off.
  3. Mocks are diagnostics, not assessments. Don't praise or scold the score. Praise the noticing โ€” "you spotted that compound word straight away, nice."
  4. Stop two days before the real exam. Sleep matters more than one more session. A short vocab review the night before is plenty.
  5. Anxiety beats knowledge gaps every time. Talk about the test as a chance to show what they know, not a gate to pass through. The standardised score adjusts for age, which means an early-summer-born child is not penalised for being younger.
