Four selective schools in Slough share a single 11+ test, managed by the Slough Consortium: Herschel Grammar, Langley Grammar, Upton Court Grammar and St Bernard's Catholic Grammar.
The format
The Slough Consortium test consists of two GL Assessment papers, sat on a Saturday in mid-September of Year 6:
- Paper 1 — English and Verbal Reasoning combined (60 min).
- Paper 2 — Maths and Non-Verbal Reasoning combined (60 min).
Both are multiple-choice with answer sheets.
Qualifying score
The pass threshold sits around 111 standardised (compared with the Bucks 121). However, the top Slough schools are heavily oversubscribed — children typically need a score of 120+ to be confident of any of the four schools.
What's different about Slough
- Slough's English papers are notably harder than typical 11+ — comprehension passages are longer and more abstract.
- Faith criteria apply at St Bernard's — qualifying isn't enough on its own.
- The pupil population is competitive; in-area distance is the major tiebreaker.
Preparation
Mixed-subject mocks weekly from Easter of Year 5 onwards. Quest Arena's free mock library includes 12 mocks built specifically in the Slough Consortium style.
