The two Tiffin Schools — Tiffin School (boys) and The Tiffin Girls' School — sit side-by-side in Kingston upon Thames. Both are state-funded grammars, both consistently in the top 1% of state schools nationally, and both heavily oversubscribed.
How the entry test works
Both Tiffin Schools use the same two-stage process as Henrietta Barnett, run jointly by an admissions team:
- Stage 1 — English and maths, in CEM-blended format (~60 min).
- Stage 2 — Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning, longer paper (~70 min).
Numbers and competition
Tiffin Boys offers 140 Year 7 places from around 2,300 applicants. Tiffin Girls offers 180 from around 2,500.
Catchment rules — important change
Both Tiffin Schools now operate distance-based admissions after qualifying scores. Children must achieve the qualifying score to be considered, but then offers go to the geographically nearest qualifying applicants. For Tiffin Boys, the cut-off catchment was around 1.5 miles in 2025.
What to prioritise in preparation
- Reading widely — Tiffin English papers reward broad vocabulary and unusual word knowledge.
- Practice CEM-style mixed-paper format from early in Year 5.
- Take at least 6 full two-stage mocks in the spring/summer before the test.
Quest Arena's centre-specific library includes Tiffin Boys and Tiffin Girls mock packs.
