Yorkshire's selective schools don't share a single consortium test the way Kent or Bucks do. Each grammar school sets its own entry assessment, though there's strong overlap in format.
Main Yorkshire grammar schools
- Ripon Grammar (North Yorkshire) — uses GL Assessment papers.
- Skipton Girls' High — uses GL Assessment papers.
- Ermysted's Grammar (Skipton, Boys) — uses GL Assessment papers.
- Crossley Heath (Halifax) — Calderdale consortium test.
- The North Halifax Grammar — Calderdale consortium test.
- Heckmondwike Grammar (Kirklees) — own bespoke test.
Typical format
For most Yorkshire grammars: two papers, sat in October of Year 6, lasting around 45-50 minutes each, in mixed-subject style. The Calderdale consortium uses a single longer paper combining maths and verbal reasoning.
Qualifying scores
Ripon Grammar and Skipton Girls' are among the highest-thresholded grammars in the country, typically requiring 125+ standardised. Crossley Heath and Heckmondwike sit around 120.
Preparation
Because Yorkshire schools each use their own test version, generic GL practice serves most of them well. Quest Arena's mock library includes Yorkshire-style GL mocks.
