11+ English is really four subjects wearing one name: comprehension, vocabulary, SPaG and (in some regions) writing. Here's the map and where the marks live.
The four strands
- Comprehension — the biggest block. Inference beats retrieval; see the seven question types.
- Vocabulary — powers both English and VR papers; build it with the 12-month plan.
- SPaG — spelling families and punctuation rules recycle predictably; the must-know rules cover it.
- Writing — marked in CSSE, Medway and most independents; technique in the writing guide.
