Bribery sets up a treadmill — the size of the reward has to keep growing. These five tweaks change the underlying experience instead.
1. Short, ambitious sessions
Fifteen minutes of focused effort beats forty-five minutes of half-distraction. Children sense the difference and feel proud of intense, brief work.
2. Visible progress
Mark scores on a simple chart. Watching the line climb is its own reward. Practice now using Quest Arena to track scores across modes.
3. Variety
Rotate between subjects. Even children who like maths get bored doing only maths. Mix Verbal Reasoning into a maths session for a refresher.
4. Talk about the why
Not the school, but the skill. "You'll read faster forever now". "Your mental maths will help you at the shops". Make the benefits personal.
5. Build in a finish ritual
A high-five, a short walk, a chosen song. Brains are wired to repeat behaviours that end with positive emotion.
