Most NVR transformation questions test one of three things: rotation, reflection, or symmetry. They're easy to confuse, and examiners know it.
Rotation
The shape turns around a fixed point. A 90° turn means a quarter rotation. 180° means the shape is upside down. 360° brings it back to the start.
Reflection
The shape flips across a "mirror line". The mirror can be vertical, horizontal, or diagonal. A right arrow reflected in a vertical mirror points left. Practice now on reflection questions to see the difference visually.
Symmetry
A shape has lines of symmetry where you could fold it in half and both sides would match. A square has 4 lines. A circle has infinite. A scalene triangle has none.
The quick test
If a rotated shape still looks the same as the original at multiple angles, it has rotational symmetry. If it can be folded onto itself, it has reflective symmetry.
