Sutton has the highest concentration of grammar-school places in any London borough — four schools, all sharing one 11+ test. Here's what each one offers.
The four Sutton grammars
- Wilson's School — boys, ~175 places. Consistently top 30 nationally. Detailed guide.
- Sutton Grammar School — boys, ~150 places. Co-educational sixth form.
- Wallington County Grammar — boys, ~150 places.
- Wallington High School for Girls — girls, ~190 places.
The shared test
All four schools use the joint Sutton Consortium test, a two-stage selection sat in September and October of Year 6. Stage 1 is an English + maths + reasoning mix (90 min); Stage 2 is a longer reasoning + comprehension paper.
Differences between the schools
Although they share the test, each school sets its own ranking and place allocation:
- Wilson's — half ranked, half distance. Most exclusive.
- Sutton Grammar — mostly ranked. Wider catchment than Wilson's.
- Wallington County — mix of ranked and distance.
- Wallington Girls' — primarily ranked.
How to choose
Most Sutton families list all four eligible schools (with priority to the closest). The two Wallington schools have wider catchments than Wilson's and Sutton Grammar; if you live more than 3 miles away, Wallington Girls' or Wallington County may be your realistic option.
Quest Arena's Sutton-style mocks cover all four schools' formats.
